A young Okitipupa mother named Iyanu Jeje has told a heartbreaking account of how her husband abandoned her soon after their triplets were born.
Iyanu talked candidly about the difficulties she encountered both before and after giving birth, exposing the psychological and emotional toll it took on her, in an interview with BBC Yoruba.
Iyanu claims that she started to worry that she might be carrying more than one kid during her pregnancy.
She went to a private hospital to confirm her fears, and the physicians there told her she was expecting triplets. She later visited a federal hospital for additional testing, and the diagnosis was confirmed.
At the time, however, she was not living with her husband but residing at her parents’ house. As a result, he was uninformed of the pregnancy’s spe cifics.
Even with the news that changed Iyanu’s life, things got harder. Because of the difficulty of carrying several babies, she had a cesarean section when it was time to give birth.
Iyanu contacted her husband to inform him of the arrival of their three infants after the successful delivery. She was confronted with silence rather than assistance.
For a few days, her husband disappeared from his house and didn’t communicate with anyone. Iyanu tried to contact him several times, but it was unsuccessful. He eventually contacted them and admitted that he had run away in fear.
He explained his disappearance by stating that he was worried about money and the overwhelming responsibility of raising triplets.
Iyanu recalled in the interview; “During my pregnancy, I went to a private hospital for a scan and was told I would give birth to triplets, I then went to a federal hospital, and they also confirmed the same. My husband wasn’t aware of all this because I was staying at my parents’ home during that time. After I gave birth, I called him and told him. But when he heard the news, he r an away from home.”
Social media users have responded to Iyanu’s story in a variety of ways, with many showing appreciation for her fortitude and sorrow for her predicament. Others have advocated for increased understanding and support networks for moms dealing with comparable difficulties, particularly in situations where male partners are unwilling or unable to step up when things get tough.
This emotional story highlights the difficulties that many women encounter when juggling unplanned pregnancies, unstable finances, and a lack of emotional support. Iyanu continues to care for her three children in spite of the challenges, depending on her family and the kindness of others to help her deal with the demanding duties of raising triplets.
