Aminu Tambuwal, Bukola Saraki, and Atiku Abubakar should be suspended from the party, according to Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State,.
It is time for the true PDP members to kick out those who engage in political prostitution, Muoboghare said in an interview in Asaba against the backdrop of the crisis trembling the party.
The way forward for the party, he continued, is to take severe action against people who pose as party members but are actually working against it. He called them serial defectors.
The former commissioner stated that the party would never advance significantly if such individuals were not expelled, and that those who have stayed in the party are the authentic members who are dedicated to its actual direction.
He emphasized that the party must endeavor to remove Atiku because, in the absence of such effort, the PDP would stagnate while others made progress.
He questioned how the economy could prosper with only carpetbaggers posing as leaders and no legitimate, vocal opposition.
“PDP remains the only national party in Nigeria, and it must cleanse itself to move forward. One of the individuals who must be shown the way out for the party to move forward is Atiku Abubakar,” he said.
Atiku is a serial defector, according to the former chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, who said he comes and goes at will and always believes the presidential candidate position is his.
According to him: “Atiku has defected to and returned from all known political parties, and finding no new one to defect to, now attempts to force the PDP into a merger with strange bedfellows to create yet another amorphous party.
“Prostitution, in any way defined, is injurious. These three musketeers who have troubled our party must be shown the way out.”
He also lamented Atiku’s belief that he has the right to leave the PDP, join the Labour Party, and then return to the PDP, only to begin negotiating mergers in the PDP’s name with other parties.
People like Atiku Abubakar should not be allowed in a serious-minded party like the PDP, Muoboghare remarked, calling this move reckless and illegal.
Additionally, Muoboghare demanded that Aminu Tambuwal be expelled, characterizing him as another unstable individual who has bad intentions for the party.
He blamed Tambuwal for beginning the turmoil that rocked the party in 2014/2015 by working against PDP while Goodluck Jonathan was president.
It is unacceptable, he said, for such individuals to return to the party after causing harm and then try to control its course.
He reiterated that true members of PDP would no longer tolerate such behaviours, adding forcefully, “we say no to them, they have to be expelled for the party to move forward.”
He stated that Bukola Saraki must also be ejected, accusing him of ruining PDP in Kwara State and being unable to deliver it.
According to him, Saraki’s volatility and incapacity to manage the political space led to the fall of Kwara State to APC.
He emphasized that the new PDP of today, which is composed of loyalist remnants, cannot continue to associate with such unstable personalities and cautioned that people like Saraki might desert at any time to any party, including the Action Congress APC, Labour Party, APGA.
If Atiku Abubakar, Aminu Tambuwal, and Bukola Saraki are not removed, Muoboghare said, there will be another wave of mass PDP defections, even among its loyalists. They didn’t wish the celebration well, he said.
In order to preserve the party, the chieftain promised that more of these people would be found and banished over time.
He boldly declared, “PDP shall rise again, but we will rise without these three.”
Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi were also criticized by Muoboghare, who called them both serial defectors and denounced their current attempt to negotiate a merger between the Labour Party and PDP without the approval of the PDP’s Board of Trustees or National Working Committee.
He accused Atiku and Obi of being the cause of the current weakness of Nigeria’s opposition and described them as individuals who use the names of their parties for personal benefit.
