The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has explained why U.S. President Donald Trump referred to Nigeria as a “disgraceful country.”

Trump, in a statement issued on Saturday, had warned that if the Nigerian government failed to address the alleged genocide against Christians, the United States would “immediately stop all aids and assistance to Nigeria and may very well go into that now disgraced country,” to eliminate the terrorists allegedly responsible for the religious violence.

Responding through a post on its official coalition mobilisation wing’s X handle, ADC Vanguard, the party claimed Trump’s statement was linked to his awareness that the “man in charge” has hidden files with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to the ADC, Nigerians are now suffering the “price of shame” brought about by corrupt and irresponsible leadership.

The post reads, “Trump’s ‘disgraceful country’ remark didn’t come from nowhere.”

“He knows the man in charge has a past buried in FBI files.

“Nigeria is paying the price of shame. Only ADC can restore our dignity”.
