Dr. Emeka Kalu, head of the ECK Foundation, has stated that he is backing Atiku Abubakar’s bid for president in the 2027 election because he is a detribalized Nigerian and has the experience needed to lead the nation out of its current security and economic difficulties.
In a statement released on Thursday, Kalu highlighted Atiku’s background and perseverance as crucial advantages that will set him apart from President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential contest.
He added that backing Atiku might be a calculated move for the South-East, opening the door for Peter Obi later on and allowing the Igbo to have a voice in the balance of power in Nigeria.
The president of the ECK Foundation emphasized that Atiku was the best candidate to bring Nigeria together because he possessed the political capacity to build bridges between its various areas.
He added that despite political and ethnic differences, Atiku’s widespread appeal may unite people.
“An Atiku presidency will lead to significant advancements in investment, infrastructure, security and will ultimately revitalise Nigeria’s crumbling economy.
“Also, Atiku is a detribalised Nigerian who can bring people together. It is regrettable that ethnic tensions have plagued Nigeria’s political landscape for a long time,” he said.
