According to Jerry Omotsegunwa, the suspended governor of Rivers State Sim Fubara’s special assistant on electronic media, the governor and Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT, must explain the reason for their disagreement.

Omotsegunwa said, “The FCT minister has not told us anything that led to the crisis, and the governor too has not provided any clarity.”

Omotsegunwa claimed in a statement that Fubara is still unsure of the reason behind Wike’s betrayal of him.

On March 18, 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State as a result of the political dispute between Fubara and Wike.

Members of the State House of Assembly and Fubara were also suspended by Tinubu.

Rotimi Amaechi, the former minister of transportation, commented on the situation and said that it was a financial one.

Amaechi called Tinubu’s decision to enforce the emergency rule in Rivers unlawful in an interview with DW.

However, as the true source of the problem is unknown, Omotsegunwa characterized Amaechi’s allegation as a personal opinion.

“As it stands right now, I will not dispute Amaechi’s position even though he has the right to his own opinion.

“This crisis has dragged on for almost two years now, and nobody has told us what the actual problem is.

“The other day, when they talked about impeaching the governor, he asked, ‘What is my offence?’ And the FCT minister said the governor tried to destroy his structure and all. These matters put together, we’ve not been able to decipher.

“So, as much as I don’t want to say he has lied, I also say he has the right to his own opinion, and that is his personal opinion,” Omotsegunwa said.
