The Rivers Elders Forum is advocating for mutual respect and political stability in Rivers State, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the people’s wishes ¹[2).

Rufus George, Chair of the Forum, shared his thoughts on Wednesday in Rivers State following a meeting with the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) Peace and Reconciliation Committee.

A crucial closed-door meeting took place on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, focusing on unity between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister Nyesom Wike, the state’s two main political factions.

After the meeting, George expressed optimism about the reconciliation efforts, noting progress in resolving the crisis. He stressed that peace can be achieved if all parties respect the people’s mandate.

Niger Delta activist AnnKio Briggs has commended the intervention of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), emphasizing the importance of political stability in Rivers State for the entire nation’s well-being.

Briggs stressed that achieving lasting peace in the state requires the collective effort of all stakeholders, urging the committee to persuade the presidency to engage with the minister to find a lasting solution.

The PANDEF delegation at the meeting was led by Chairman and former Governor Victor Attah, alongside other prominent members.

These members included Senator Roland Owie, Senator Emmanuel Essien, Colonel Pam Ogar, Senator Stella Omu, and Engineer Dagogo Jack, among others.

Chief George led the Rivers Elders’ Forum, comprising respected individuals such as Admiral O.P. Fingesi, Sir Gabriel Toby, and Senator Benneth Birabi.

Other notable members of the forum included AnnKio Briggs, Senator Andrew Uchendu, and Anabs Sara-Igbe.
