Yakubu Dogara, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has claimed that Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike played a significant part in guaranteeing Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s gubernatorial ambition in 2018, both financially and logistically.

The former Speaker accused Bala Mohammed of treason and biting the hand that once fed him.

According to Dogara, Mohammed’s chances of winning the primaries were minimal because his major opponent, Senator Abdul Ningi, dominated the state’s party organisation.

Dogara stated that he reached out to Wike, who gave him of his full support and expedited the process by choosing his supporter, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, as head of the primary panel.

Wike allegedly provided a private plane to fly Orbih to Bauchi for the task and covered all expenses, with no conditions attached.

According to Dogara, once Bala Mohammed emerged as the PDP’s flagbearer, it became clear that he lacked the financial resources to fund his campaign.

The former Speaker said that a fundraiser held at the Sheraton Hotel in Abuja earned only N48 million, leaving the team stranded.

Dogara claimed to have taken a group to Port Harcourt in search of finances, where Wike once again rescued them.

During the visit, Wike reportedly expressed unhappiness with Bala Mohammed, citing previous issues, including alleged abuse while serving as ministers under President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former Speaker, in a statement made on Tuesday through his media aide, Turaki Hassan, stated that despite the complaints, Wike offered financial support and even a private jet to Bala Mohammed’s campaign.

Dogara claimed that Bala Mohammed bowed before Wike to take the monies and swore to mend his ways, and that Wike’s unwavering support was vital in Bala Mohammed’s eventual success.

“Wike bore all the costs, from providing a private jet to flying Chief Dan to Bauchi, to personally ensuring Mohammed’s emergence as PDP’s flag bearer,” Dogara revealed.

“It’s shocking that Bala Mohammed, who had no financial capacity for his campaign, now has the audacity to call Wike ‘transactional,” he added.

The former Speaker labelled Bala Mohammed as a “psychopath” and a “serial betrayer,” accusing him of betraying his benefactor Wike and others, including elder politician Alhaji Bello Kirfi.

He chastised Mohammed for calling Wike a “transactional politician” despite benefiting greatly from his largesse.

According to ZINGTIE, the FCT Minister and the Bauchi governor have spat over the PDP leadership crisis.

Mohammed accused Wike of betraying the PDP by cooperating with the All Progressive Congress (APC) and demanded his resignation.

But Wike responded by branding Mohammed a hypocrite, noting that he had defected from the All Nigeria Peoples Party to the PDP while profiting from a PDP administration.

The disagreement between the two is also related to the Rivers State crisis.

Wike is thought to be upset with Bala Mohammed, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, for siding with his replacement in Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, despite their ongoing conflict.
