Sen. Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, has retaliated against Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), calling him a “transactional politician” motivated by disloyalty and personal ambition.
According to ZINGTIE, the criticism follows Wike’s recent media appearance in which he claimed that “Bala Mohammed is not his good friend.”
During last Sunday’s media talk in Abuja, Wike also accused some PDP leaders of being to accountable for the party’s problems, pointing to their words and deeds as causing it to stall.
Mohammed, who also serves as the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Peoples Democratic Party, responded by accusing Wike of supporting the goals of the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC, while denigrating the party and the platform that helped him advance in politics.
He claimed that Wike’s conflicting allegiances were bad for democracy and that his unpredictable actions alienated his supporters.
Wike’s remarks regarding their lack of friendship were also rejected by Mohammed, who emphasised that ability, not interpersonal ties, is the foundation of good governance.
The governor also chastised Wike’s time as FCT Minister, accusing him of putting public insults ahead of substantive government in a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.
In contrast to his own principled opposition to the APC’s contentious tax measures, Mohammed cited Wike’s backing of President Bola Tinubu’s administration as proof of opportunism.
“Chief Wike’s ascendancy in politics is a testament to the opportunities provided by the PDP. Yet, he now gleefully undermines the very foundation that nurtured him.
“It is disheartening that a man who owes so much to a party that stood by him in his political journey has chosen to be a willing tool in its denigration.
“His recent media outburst was yet another reminder of his transactional approach to politics, where personal ambition eclipses loyalty, principles, and collective interests.
“Unlike Wike, who thrives on drama and divisiveness, Sen. Bala Mohammed has always understood that politics is not a game of self-serving theatrics but a platform to serve the public good.
“Wike’s erratic behavior and opportunistic alliances expose him as an unreliable and fair-weather friend—traits that alienate even those who once stood by him,” the statement partly reads.
Mohammed reiterated his commitment to advancing democracy and bringing about change in Bauchi State, calling Wike’s actions a betrayal of the PDP and Nigeria’s democratic traditions.
