Prof. Udenta Udenta, a political strategist and the Alliance for Democracy’s founding national secretary, has accused President Bola Tinubu, the Nigeria Police, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of attempting to undermine the PDP.

In an interview with Arise News on Thursday, Udenta said that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had acted “on the orders of the President” at the PDP National Secretariat.

He insisted that the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC, was purposefully undermining the opposition, claiming that the crisis hitting the PDP was now “externally engineered” rather than internal.

He said that Wike’s political actions within the PDP were a component of a larger plan overseen by the President.

“Wike is not an autonomous administrative or political force. He is a dependent force,” Udenta said.

“Wike went to Wadata Plaza on behalf of the President because the President was at Wadata Plaza — not Wike. If Wike holds a press briefing, it is the President holding the briefing.”

Wike’s participation, according to Udenta, was a “deliberate institutional choice” made by the Presidency to have an impact on the internal affairs of the PDP.

He claimed that the PDP had typical internal conflicts, much like any major political organization, but that outside meddling had made the situation worse.

“As we struggle to rebuild the party and grow the brand, the Presidency and the APC are working to diminish the party,” he said, adding that the APC views the PDP as its strongest national challenger.

The political analyst also attacked INEC, accusing the organization of being ambiguous and acting selectively in relation to the PDP’s leadership struggle.

“INEC has a mandate to be clear and unequivocal. In Ekiti, INEC’s actions showed it did not accept Abdurrahman as acting chairman, but it later accepted Damagun. Did INEC accept the suspension of four NWC members? INEC has not spoken,” he said.

He claimed that INEC selected which court orders to comply and that the commission did so in order to achieve its desired result.

Additionally, Udenta blamed the police for facilitating what he called the PDP Secretariat’s factional takeover.

He claimed that the police let the Anyanwu faction entry to the secretariat in the early hours of the morning in spite of earlier protests made by the son of the incoming PDP chairman, Tanimu Turaki SAN.
