The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kano Axis Joint Campus Council (JCC), has stated that it is prepared to oppose measures that it believes are exacerbating the economic hardship experienced by Nigerian students and their families.
The group proclaimed its complete support for the nationwide demonstration organized by NANS’ national leadership against the newly implemented tax policy.
Speaking about the decision, Comrade Muddassir Hamza Dankaka, Public Relations Officer of NANS, Kano Axis, stated that students cannot continue to remain mute while policies that exacerbate hardship are foisted on the public.
He criticized the new tax policy as unfair, anti-student, and economically punishing.
“The tax policy is unjust, anti-student, and economically oppressive, especially at a time when students and their families are already battling rising living costs, tuition fees, and inadequate government support.
“The Kano Axis, under the leadership of Comrade Yunus Sulaiman Halliru, stands with the national body in demanding the immediate withdrawal of the policy in the interest of fairness, equity, and national development,” he said.
Dankaka stated that the planned demonstration would be peaceful, and urged students across the country to be calm, disciplined, and law-abiding throughout the event.
The association claims to be dedicated to safeguarding the rights, interests, and well-being of Nigerian students.
The demonstration is slated for January 14, 2026, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja.
