Local government employees in the state’s Council areas have stopped providing services, which Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a leader of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, in Osun, has called pitiful and regrettable.
Former lawmaker Oyintiloye claimed that the workers’ actions had caused administrative paralysis in the state’s local government regions, causing immense suffering for those at the grassroots level.
Speaking to reporters in Osogbo on Sunday, the APC chieftain urged employees to get back to work right away in order to prevent the council areas from collapsing completely.
According to Oyintiloye, the workers’ withdrawal of services has hampered the provision of some basic services at local governments around the state in the past month.
He added that the closure of the local government’s clinics, primary health care facilities, marriage registers, and administrative offices had caused immense hardship for students, prospective couples, pregnant women, and others.
According to Oyintiloye, many pregnant women at the grassroots level were unable to obtain their regular vaccinations, and many applicants were unable to access the secretariats in order to obtain the papers required to apply for federal positions.
He claimed that there was no need for local government employees to flee their jobs because elected council chairmen were in place in the council regions.
Oyintiloye urged the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NUGLE) and Nigeria Labour Congress’s (NLC) leadership to refrain from using their positions to thwart the state’s local government administration.
According to him, “since both unions are supposed to be apolitical, they should uphold the tenets of their creation and which is to serve all government in power.”
According to Oyintiloye, the council chairmen would coordinate with security services and make sure that workers were properly safeguarded upon resuming in order to safeguard lives and property.
The APC chieftain said that “the perceived crisis in council areas had been put under control by the security agencies,” adding “that there is a peaceful atmosphere for workers to resume back to their duty posts.”
Nonetheless, he praised representatives of a NULGE faction operating under the auspices of the Association of Concerned local government employees for their readiness to return to work on Monday.
Additionally, he cautioned the state government against destroying the state’s local government administration through the use of divide and conquer strategies.
