Rachel Geoffrey, a 23-year-old resident of Federal Housing Estate, Girei, has been placed under custody by the Adamawa State Police Command for reportedly setting her stepchildren’s hands on fire.

The children’s afflicted hands are currently bandaged: three-year-old Idadai Geoffrey and seven-year-old Genesis Geoffrey.

In a statement, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, claimed that Rachel had purposefully injured her stepchildren severely physically.

The police image maker said the incident happened on Tuesday, May 14, in a statement made public on Saturday.

He claimed that their stepmother had committed multiple planned acts of cruelty and violations of the children’s human rights.

He clarified that the woman’s anger was directed towards the kids because of a plate of rice she cooked and kept for her husband.

“The kids, because of hunger, ate their father’s food and that angered her. She then tied their hands with a handkerchief and set fire to them, resulting in the severe injuries they sustained,” Nguroje explained.
