After it came to light that she had opted to leave the child behind while traveling abroad years before, a woman’s emotional plea for custody of her daughter ignited fierce social media debate.
A widely shared online account claims that the woman confessed to marrying before she was prepared and to becoming pregnant within three months.
Later on, she had a daughter. While she was still living in her matrimonial home, she was secretly preparing travel documents to move to Canada, unknown to her husband and family at the time.
Although her visa was ultimately approved, the arrangement necessitated that she travel alone. At that time, it was reported that her infant was only three months old.
The woman proceeded with the journey, leaving the baby behind without notifying her husband or relatives. It was reported that her family members were unaware of her departure from Nigeria.
It is said that years later, the woman has achieved financial stability and is thriving in Canada. She went back to Nigeria in January, aiming to reunite with her now-seven-year-old daughter.
Nevertheless, it is claimed that the father of the child denied her access to the girl.
As reported, the situation escalated when the woman found out that her husband had remarried without her consent and had also concealed the existence of a child from her.
She attempted to seek help from her family, but they reportedly refused to intervene.
The woman is reportedly looking into legal avenues to regain custody of her daughter and intends to return the child to Canada.
Since returning to Nigeria, she has been unable to reportedly see or speak with the child.
The case has split online public opinion. Her wish to reconnect with her daughter was met with sympathy from some, while others condemned her actions.
One social media user publicly backed the husband’s choice, charging the woman with selfishness and abandonment.
“A baby you left at three months can also be left again,” the commenter stated, contending that the woman leveraged her marriage to fulfill her travel ambitions while neglecting her duties as a mother.
