When Folakemi sought medical attention for her illness, a team of doctors kindly offered her free care.

Mrs. Folakemi, the person who favoured receiving N300,000 in cash over a free surgical procedure to remove a goitre from her neck, has passed away.

It was revealed that she had suffered from the goitre for years.

Folakemi was gratefully granted free care by a medical team when she sought help for her problem.

But apparently, she declined and requested that the funds raised be given to her instead.

According to reports, she returned to her Osun village in the hopes that her government—which had become aware of her problem through a widely shared video—would honour its commitment to help.

However, that turned out to be a mistaken hope.

Media sources state that she was persuaded to part over the money needed for the procedure by the director of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that had shown interest in the issue.

But it’s said that the procedure went wrong, which is what killed her.
