A groundbreaking initiative is underway to empower 48,000 women across 16 frontline local government areas of Katsina State. The Women Initiative for Northern Nigeria Development made this announcement on Wednesday, revealing plans to implement the programme within the next three months.

According to Zainab Mohammed, coordinator of the group, “We are starting with women at the frontline local government areas of Katsina State.” This targeted approach aims to enable communities to take ownership of their development, safety, and well-being.

A key component of the initiative is the Neighbourhood Committee Network, a grassroots movement designed to empower neighbourhoods in various communities and villages. Mohammed explained, “The establishment of a network of community-led committees was aimed at creating a platform for citizens to come together, share ideas, and work collectively towards common goals.”

The programme will focus on four core areas:

– *Community Development*: Enhancing infrastructure and services to improve living standards.

– *Safety and Security*: Promoting peace and stability through community-led initiatives.

– *Social Cohesion*: Fostering unity and cooperation among community members

– *Environmental Growth*: Encouraging sustainable practices and environmental conservation.

To achieve these goals, the group plans to establish a national secretariat, which will develop robust training programmes and foster partnerships with governmental agencies, NGOs, and private sector organisations. Mohammed emphasised, “Our goal is to build stronger and more resilient communities that are better equipped to withstand challenges and seize opportunities at any given time.”

The Women Initiative for Northern Nigeria Development invites everyone to join them on this journey, saying, “We invite you all to join us on this journey so that together we shall build a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our communities.
