With Israel being the antagonist in the views of six militant groups in neighboring nations, the Middle East is currently leading what many fear could turn into a world war.

The Associated Press reports that Iran and its allies, who will be collaborating with Hamas and armed groups in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen, including the militant Lebanese group Hezbollah, are the most recent to declare an attack against Israel.

Iran said Wednesday that it would exact revenge for the death of its senior generals, who were killed by an Israeli airstrike a few days prior.

After an airstrike that was mostly attributed to Israel destroyed Iran’s Consulate in Syria and killed 12 individuals, including two senior Iranian generals, it was reported that Iranian officials renewed their vow to retaliate.

Ebrahim Raisi, the president of Iran, declared on Wednesday that the incident “will not remain without answer.”

Lt. Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, the senior US Air Force commander for the Middle East, stated that the United States is worried that the deadly strike in Damascus may lead to other attacks on American forces by militias with Iranian support in Iraq and Syria.

Iran has long-range missiles that can reach Israel, and it has sizable rocket and missile arsenals in addition to those of its regional allies and proxies, such as Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthi group in Yemen.

Many defense systems in Israel are built to intercept different types of aircraft threats. With Iran’s proxies firing thousands of rockets and missiles into Israel during the Gaza War, these systems have been put to the test.

Meanwhile, following this week’s Israeli strike that led to the deaths of seven World Central Kitchen relief workers, White House national security spokesman John Kirby emphasized on Wednesday that the Biden administration continues to support Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas.
