Isaiah Ijele, the Kogi State Publicity Secretary for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), claimed on Wednesday that Usman Ododo, the state governor, had “sinned” by not paying workers their salaries.

Ijele said this on the Morning Show on Arise Television, adding that salary payments are not a feat.

He charged Ododo with conspiring to mismanage the state alongside his godfather, Yahaya Bello, who was the state’s previous governor.

Ijele said: “I don’t know if you believe that payment of salaries and wages — even the holy books say labourers are worthy of their wages, and it’s a sin to withhold the wages of labourers.

“It’s not an achievement but a compulsory commitment on the side of the government. They can’t keep working if you are not paying them.

“I keep saying that what was Ododo’s manifesto in line with his performance? During the election, we were seeing him campaigning alongside former governor GYB. How many times did you see him talking? He never granted any interview.

“We are talking about the dividends of democracy and doing what is right for democracy. What is an achievement in paying salaries? We are talking about infrastructural development and insecurity in the state.”

He charged that Ododo had failed to combat insecurity in Kogi State.

Ijele said that the SDP has been in charge of the opposition’s operations in the state.

He added: “Are you aware that most vehicles can’t even ply that road to the East as we are talking because of kidnapping?

“SDP in Kogi State has judiciously managed the affairs of the state as an opposition party without being biased. When they perform, we applaud them, and when they don’t perform, we speak to their face and say, ‘Man, you are not doing well.’

“Ododo doesn’t have a manifesto, so he can’t even tell us what he has done, with the billions flowing into the state right now.”
