Media sources in Gaza have reported the killing of Zakaria Sinwar, the brother of former Hamas figure Yahya Sinwar and the current de facto leader of Hamas in Gaza, Muhammad Sinwar, during an overnight Israeli air raid in Nuseirat, located in the central part of the Gaza Strip.

The reports indicate that Zakaria Sinwar lost his life along with three of his children when the airstrike hit the tent where they were staying.

Zakaria, who served as a lecturer at the Islamic University in Gaza, was not publicly associated with any operational involvement in Hamas’s armed wing. Nevertheless, his close family connection to two of Hamas’s top-ranking members is considered noteworthy.

At this time, the Israeli military has not released an official statement verifying the reports.

This development comes amid an escalation in Israeli military actions across Gaza, as part of a broader effort to dismantle Hamas leadership and infrastructure.

Just prior to the news of Zakaria’s death, a media outlet in Saudi Arabia reported that the body of Muhammad Sinwar, a high-ranking Hamas commander, was discovered in a tunnel in Khan Yunis—an area struck by Israeli forces in recent days. That report has also not yet been officially verified by Israeli officials.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Israel Katz reportedly told the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that he believes Muhammad Sinwar was killed in an Israeli operation last week.

“There’s no official confirmation, but according to all the indications Muhammad Sinwar was eliminated,” Ynet cites Katz as saying.

The Israeli military has stated that its current campaign is aimed at what it terms the “complete defeat of Hamas,” including the neutralization of senior commanders and the demolition of the group’s tunnel infrastructure.
