A businessman named Mamuda Duma has been placed on remand by the Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, for allegedly impregnating a housewife and then aborting her three-month pregnancy.
When the defendant was arraigned before the court after the woman’s husband, Ahmadu Lawal, filed a complaint, the judge ordered the man’s remand.
The defendant, who lives at Wurojabbe in Yola North LGA, was having an affair with his wife, Lawal, a resident of Yola town in Yola South LGA, informed the court.
He informed the court that he had phoned the man three times to warn him about the affair after learning about it last year, but he chose to keep the relationship going.
He went on to say that the defendant was reported to the Yola Police headquarters after forcing his wife to terminate her three-month pregnancy.
He recounted how the defendant and a few of his friends begged him to drop the case in exchange for him ceasing to see his wife.
He said that after withdrawing the lawsuit, the defendant carried on with the affair.
The court, which was presided over by Chief Magistrate Muhammad Njidda, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody after he disputed the accusations when they were read to him.
The Chief Magistrate postponed the start of the trial until September 1, 2025.
