The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was challenged by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike on Saturday on their position on the South-South zonal congress.

According to ZINGTIE, despite a court injunction prohibiting the event, Wike-aligned PDP members held the South-South PDP Zonal Congress on Saturday in Calabar, Cross River State.

Remember how a High Court in the capital of Rivers State, Port Harcourt, had given a temporary order to stop the zonal congress?

However, Wike and his supporters, like as Donald Duke, a former governor of Cross Rivers State, attended the Congress and cast ballots.

The party’s NWC, however, disassociated itself from the zonal congress, claiming that the PDP had no involvement whatsoever in the “said gathering in Calabar.”

It has not had its South-South Zonal Congress, the biggest opposition party insisted.

The former governor of Rivers State, however, stated during his goodwill speech at the conference that no congress or convention had ever included all of the participants.

Delegates to the Congress were tasked by the FCT Minister with choosing representatives who would uphold and safeguard the party.

He said, “The South-South Zone is the strongest zone of the PDP in Nigeria. It has always been and will always be. There is no part of the constitution that says congress should be postponed because of a wedding or travelling.

“There has never been a congress where every delegate was present. I want to assure you that this is the final zonal congress of the South-South Zone. After the election today, no other zonal congress will hold.

“This is our job, our terrain, and we are not new to this. Nobody can intimidate me and I don’t need to be a governor. Let us put ourselves together in truth and ensure our party remains united and we can only be united when we are truthful”.
