Over the past two years, the Federal Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been accused by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of trying to undermine the legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The ADC claimed in a statement released on Monday by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, its Interim National Publicity Secretary, that the APC and government representatives are now portraying themselves as main mourners in the wake of the former President’s passing, despite the fact that they had repeatedly criticized Buhari’s administration.

“The party and the government that had done everything in the last two years to tarnish his records, dismantle his legacies, and blame him for every one of their failings, are now posturing as the chief mourners at his burial,” the statement read in part.

In a warning against trying to profit politically from what it called a national tragedy, the ADC characterized the development as political hypocrisy. Additionally, it cautioned Buhari’s family and followers against what it called political opportunism.

The party said Buhari’s legacy should be used as a standard for leadership in Nigeria and urged Nigerians to remember him for his honesty, modesty, and dedication to public service.
