Zambian army promotes players for securing Olympics ticket

The Zambian Army has promoted Copper Queens captain Barbara Banda to the rank of Staff Sergeant in recognition of her contribution to the nation’s qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Tuesday night, the Copper Queens defeated Morocco 2-0, overcoming a 2-1 first-leg deficit thanks to two goals from Banda.

In the 39th minute, the attacker gave Zambia their first goal.

After the game entered extra time, she scored the second goal in the 105th minute from the penalty spot.

Goalkeeper Ngambo Musole was also promoted after making several outstanding saves during the game.

Anita Mulenga and Racheal Nachula, two more players, were elevated to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In Paris in 2024, the Copper Queens will compete in their second Olympics.
