A fire consumed an Almajiri school in Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State, killing at least 17 kids.

This was revealed on Wednesday in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad Basin counterterrorism and insurgency specialist.

The tragic incident reportedly took place on Tuesday night.

Makama said intelligence sources told him the incident lasted about three hours before being brought under control.

The report states that a large number of students suffered injury and are now undergoing treatment.

“Eyewitnesses described the fire as devastating, noting that efforts to contain it were hampered by its intensity.

“Local authorities and emergency responders arrived at the scene to provide assistance, but the inferno had already caused severe casualties,” Makama said.
