Hon. Mohammed Lawal Kurya has been declared the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate in Zamfara State for the upcoming by-election to the Kaura Namoda South State Constituency.
Naziru Ibrahim Rufai, the party’s state secretary, revealed this to reporters in Gusau on Tuesday.
After consulting with party stakeholders in the constituency, aspirants reached a consensus, according to Rufai, and Kurya emerged victorious.
He claims that only four of the 14 candidates who first expressed interest in the seat actually bought nomination forms. Kurya was eventually permitted to fly the party’s flag in the by-election when the party came to an agreement.
He said that the selection procedure was carried out in accordance with instructions from the PDP National Secretariat following the publication of the by-election schedule by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
According to reports, a five-member committee from the PDP National Secretariat, headed by Nasir Mohammed, and a state-based INEC delegate oversaw the procedure.
Rufai cited recent state government policy implementations to express confidence in the party’s chances.
In order to fill the vacancy in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, a by-election is planned to represent Kaura Namoda South.
