Veteran journalist, Dele Momodu, has stated that zoning of presidential ticket is not constitutional.
According to Momodu, all eligible and capable Nigerians ought to be able to run for president.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is zoning its presidential ticket to the South, which coincides with his comment.
The decision was made by the erstwhile ruling party during a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja.
But Momodu noted that following the passing of former President Musa Yar’Adua, the PDP never zoned.
Posting on X, he wrote: “There was never a zoning. Yar’Adua died but PDP never insisted on power remaining in the North.
“Jonathan could have governed for a total of 9 years if he defeated Buhari in 2015.
“OBJ (8) + GEJ (5) + TINUBU (4) from 1999 to 2027 = 17 years out of 28 = 11 years to the North. If Tinubu wins fair and square in 2027, so be it, and if opposition beats him black and blue, he should pls go back home, in peace.
“Never. Zoning is not in our Constitution and I believe every competent and qualified Nigerian should have a chance to run for the highest office.”
