Peter Obi, the former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, has reaffirmed his commitment to education, healthcare, and empowerment as key drivers of national development. During his visit to Mater Misericordiae College of Nursing Sciences in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, Obi praised the institution’s long-standing contributions to Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

“Established in 1946, it is one of Nigeria’s pioneering healthcare institutions,” Obi said. “Its Schools of Nursing and Midwifery, founded in 1952 and 1953, have produced thousands of professionals who continue to play vital roles in the medical field.”

Recognising the school’s ongoing infrastructural upgrades and the enrolment of about 1,000 students, Obi pledged to support their efforts. He made an initial donation of ₦10 million to aid the training of healthcare professionals.

“The college currently has about 1,000 students and is undertaking several infrastructure upgrades. To support their efforts, I reaffirmed my commitment to collaborating with them in training Nigerian healthcare professionals and made an initial donation of ₦10 million,” Obi said.

In his address to the students, Obi emphasised the significance of healthcare as a critical factor in human development. “Healthcare is a fundamental indicator of human development,” he said. “The role of nurses and medical practitioners in national progress cannot be overstated.”

Obi also commended the institution’s staff for their dedication and expressed appreciation to the Ebonyi State Government for its collaboration with the school in advancing healthcare education. “I appreciate the Ebonyi State Government for working with the school in the shared interest of the state and the nation,” he said.

He urged the students to remain dedicated to their studies, especially in light of the increasing global demand for healthcare workers. “With more investment in healthcare education, we can build a stronger system that meets both national and international needs,” Obi said, reiterating his vision for a better Nigeria.

In a recent interview, Obi expressed his commitment to Nigeria’s transformation, stating, “Nigeria is suffering, and we need to fix that.”. ¹ He emphasized that his focus is on practical solutions rather than just winning elections. Obi’s vision for a better Nigeria resonates with many Nigerians, particularly the youth, who are hungry for genuine change.

Obi’s determination to fix Nigeria’s problems is unwavering, and he is willing to work with other leaders to achieve this goal. “If I see somebody who can do it better, I will step aside and be his vice president,” he said. This mindset is refreshing in Nigerian politics, where personal ambition often takes precedence over national interest.

As Obi continues to advocate for a better Nigeria, his message of hope and change is inspiring many Nigerians to work towards a brighter future.
