2014 Confab: Something great is coming as Gowon, OBJ, Jonathan, Abdulsalami, Soyinka, others meet

To honor Ben Nwabueze, a national dialogue is being held to mark the tenth anniversary of the 2014 National Confab.

To establish the agenda for the Federal Government’s Constitution Review Process, notable Nigerians such as Former Heads of State and Presidents of Nigeria Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Former Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations Emeka Anyaoku, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, Former Chief of Army Staff TY Danjuma, Chairman of the Northern Elders’ Forum Edwin Clark, Former Chief of Defence Staff, Alani Akinrinade, Northern Elder, Tanko Yakassai, Leader of Afenifere, Ango Abdullahi, Leader of the Niger Delta, Ayo Adebanjo, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Serving and Former Governors and Legislators, Eminent Northern and Southern Leaders, and other leaders of Nigerian thought will address the Future Dialogue on the Constitution of Nigeria on Monday at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs NIIA, Lagos.

The Chairman of the Patriots, a group of distinguished Nigerian leaders of thought, and former Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, announced the Agenda of the Constitutional Dialogue on behalf of the organizers at the weekend. The dialogue is intended to foster national consensus among the Nigerian elite on the country’s constitutional future and, in particular, on how to make Nigeria work for all of its diverse peoples.

In a significant national broadcast, the eminent diplomat from abroad and the chair of the Patriots, an esteemed group of thought leaders, announced that the National Dialogue, which aims to inspire Nigerians to break down barriers to national unity and good governance, will honor the late Prof. Ben Nwabueze, SAN. Ben was a leading champion and proponent for the 2014 National Confab, which President Goodluck Jonathan launched ten years ago on March 17, 2014, and whose body was laid to rest in his hometown of Atani, Anambra State, last month.

By constructively advocating for a new democratic people’s constitution to replace the military decree No. 24 of 1999, which is currently in effect in Nigeria as the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended), the historic National Meeting is also anticipated to set a formidable citizens’ agenda for the ongoing constitution review process of the Federal Government, which the National Assembly started towards the popular reconfiguration, cohesion, stability, and prosperity of Nigeria.

Keynote speakers, discussants, the presidency, past presidents, past vice presidents, current and former governors, leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives, traditional rulers, distinguished national leaders of thought, scholars, members of the judiciary, captains of the private sector, leaders of organized civil society, labour leaders, and other distinguished stakeholders are among the prominent participants scheduled to speak at the National Summit under the theme: Lawful Procedures for Actualizing a People’s Constitution for Nigeria.
