The Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, coalition has no plans to leave the current All Progressives Congress, APC, according to Farouk Aliyu, a close supporter of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Aliyu, who claimed to be a member of Buhari’s cabal, is certain that the APC’s CPC caucus was stagnating.
He made this claim on Wednesday’s Politics Today show on Channels Television, claiming it was only conjecture.
He said, “It’s not true; there is nothing like members of the defunct CPC wants to move out of APC.
“Our certificate, the certificate of CPC, was part of what formed APC. So, how can we leave? To go where? This is our party.”
The APC leader, a former House of Representatives Minority Leader, claimed that Buhari did not support Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna, abandoning the APC.
He stated that since El-Rufai was not appointed as a minister, he shouldn’t tear down the roof.
However, in order to reduce rivalry and conflict before to the next election, Aliyu asked the APC leadership to work with all blocs inside the ruling party.
“Politics is about engagement. Politics is about the interests of groups, people, and so on. That is what we are saying: engage more; not only with people from the defunct CPC, but even from the PDP. So that in 2027, there will be less competition,” the Jigawa power broker said.
Aliyu said the APC won’t “just sit by and allow” the Atiku Abubakar-led coalition “to take over the government”.
“They are strange bedfellows,” he added, adding that the Atiku coalition would be thwarted if a presidential candidate were chosen.
Recall that the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Bola Tinubu’s Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Muhammadu Buhari-led CPC, and a group inside the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) united to form the APC in 2013.
