According to Umar Ardo, the League of Northern Democrats’ (LND) convener, the alliance’s best chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) is by creating a new political party.

Plans to build a coalition to oppose Tinubu and the APC in 2027 are being discussed by prominent opposition lawmakers.

Ardo spoke during his appearance on Arise Television’s “The Morning Show” on Wednesday.

“Predominant members and even leaders of the coalition support merging into an existing political party.

“However, another group, which I belong to, believes that registering a new political party for the coalition is the better approach.

“We insist that our approach to establishing a new political party is the best option, and we find the argument for merging into another party unconvincing,” he said.
