Opposition coalition leader, Salihu Lukman, has said the outcome of the recently concluded Osun State governorship election has demonstrated how opposition parties could defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Lukman made the assertion in a statement issued at the weekend.

ZINGTIE reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Ademola Adeleke the winner of the Osun governorship election.

Adeleke defeated the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to secure victory in the poll.

The result has continued to generate reactions from Nigerians, political observers and analysts since Adeleke was declared winner.

Reacting to the development, Lukman described the Osun election as a useful model that opposition parties could adopt in their efforts to unseat President Tinubu in 2027.

He argued that the opposition coalition already enjoys considerable support among Nigerians but faces a major obstacle in the form of disunity among its various political groups.

Lukman therefore called on opposition leaders to put aside their differences and unite if they are serious about defeating President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

“Nigeria’s opposition does not suffer from a shortage of popular support. Its greatest challenge is fragmentation.

“Nigeria is bigger than any candidate, any ambition and any political party. If opposition leaders genuinely believe that the country requires a different direction in 2027, then they must demonstrate the same courage, restraint and willingness to compromise that has now produced this outcome in Osun,” he stated.
