The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has released fresh details regarding its forthcoming Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assembly primaries.
In a statement jointly signed by Senator Moses Cleopas, National Chairman, and Barr. Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, National Secretary, the party confirmed that the primaries would still hold nationwide on May 29, 2026, in line with the earlier schedule fixed for May 28 and 29.
The party explained that the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and accompanying public holidays created major transportation and logistical challenges, including scarcity of flight services.
According to the statement, many aspirants who travelled to Abuja for screening, alongside members of the screening panel, are currently stranded in the Federal Capital Territory.
Following the development, the party announced that May 28 would now be reserved for arrivals, documentation with INEC and security agencies, consultations, and other preparatory engagements, while the actual primaries would be conducted on May 29.
The statement further noted that stakeholders, party elders, and aspirants in different states would also hold meetings with the designated teams on May 28.
NDC stressed that no state agencies, including the Police, INEC, DSS, and others, are expected to take part in any activity or meeting scheduled for May 28, warning that any action outside the approved guidelines would be regarded as illegal and unauthorized.
According to the party, the May 29 exercise will cover Presidential affirmation, National Assembly primaries/affirmation, State Assembly primaries/affirmation, and Governorship primaries/affirmation.
“The respective teams will gather and process all results, which will then be sent to the National Headquarters, where the National Working Committee will officially announce the outcomes,” the statement said.
It further stated that “No state executive or team is authorized to declare any results.
“We appeal for understanding and encourage all participants to behave responsibly, as the party maintains a strict policy against violence, disorderly conduct, and hooliganism.”
