The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports suggesting it is entering into an alliance with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Abraham Amah, made the clarification on Thursday at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia while responding to questions regarding reports of a possible coalition involving the party.

Amah described the PDP in Abia as united, strong and fully prepared for the 2027 elections, insisting that anyone speaking in support of an alliance was not representing the position of the party.

He stated that following the successful submission of the names of the party’s candidates for various elective positions, the PDP is ready to contest the 2027 elections independently without seeking the backing of any political party or offering its platform to another group.

“As far as we are concerned, as at today, we do not have any agreement with any other political party.

“Am privileged to know what is happening at the party, not only in the State but at the national level. So we do not have any such agreement with anybody,” Amah said.

The Abia PDP chairman also dismissed claims of factionalisation within the party, maintaining that there is only one recognised leadership in the state.

According to him, the names of all candidates produced by the faction under his leadership have already been successfully uploaded to the official portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He further disclosed that the party has commenced reconciliation efforts aimed at resolving grievances among aspirants who were dissatisfied with the outcome of its primary elections.

Earlier during the press briefing, the PDP governorship candidate in Abia State, Kelechi Anosike, promised to implement a minimum wage of N90,000 for civil servants if elected governor.

Anosike also criticised the current salary payment structure in the state, alleging that the Abia State Government has not implemented the N70,000 minimum wage uniformly for all workers.
