2027: Tinubu or somebody else – Okwesilieze Nwodo throws weight behind Southern President

Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, former governor of Enugu State, has declared his support for a southern candidate in the 2027 presidential election, despite the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not having officially zoned its ticket.

In an interview with Arise TV, Nwodo stressed that the next president of Nigeria should hail from the southern region, regardless of whether the candidate is from the PDP or President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nwodo’s argument is rooted in the principle of fairness, pointing out that former President Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner, served two terms, and it’s only fair that the south has the same opportunity to lead the country for eight years.

Nwodo emphasized that if President Tinubu serves his full first term, the presidency should remain in the south for an additional four years to maintain regional equilibrium. He reaffirmed his dedication to advocating for this cause when the opportunity arises, stressing the importance of balancing power across regions.

He said, “Well, we haven’t done the zoning, but I will advocate when we get to that point, that the south must complete its own eight years of presidency like Buhari did. Whether it’s going to be Tinubu or its somebody else from the south, the south should be allowed to do eight years, and I will campaign for that. Tinubu is from the south, if he does four years, the presidency should remain in the south for another four years.”
