The arrest of music executive and billionaire Emeka Okonkwo, better known by his stage name E-Money, has angered Cubana Chief Priest, a well-known nightlife promoter and businessman.

On the evening of Monday, April 25, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested E-Money, the founder of 5-Star Music, at his residence in Omole, Lagos.

E-Money was arrested for allegedly violating Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange Act by spraying US dollars during a public gathering, according to EFCC sources.

“On Monday night, we arrested E-Money for naira abuse and defacing foreign currencies. Specifically, he was alleged to have sprayed US dollars, which is against the Foreign Exchange Act. Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and he will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” an EFCC official, who chose to remain unnamed, explained.

Cubana Chief Priest responded to the arrest by defending E-Money on social media and raising concerns about the timing and motivation of the action.

“This is a guy who just did everything to push up Southeast with his just concluded homecoming concert this Easter. I knew they would come for him because they just saw his strength,” he wrote.

“They are doing this so they could break him to

him support them under duress.”

Additionally, Cubana implied that the detention was a component of a larger campaign to silence critics.

“We don’t die; we multiply. More billionaires are coming. Come 2027, we will support and vote for who we want to. We won’t be broken,” he added.

E-Money and Cubana Chief Priest are both from Southeast Nigeria, which in the 2023 presidential election overwhelmingly backed Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
