Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued a warning, saying that those pushing former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for president in 2027 are purposefully trying to cause a crisis in the nation.

Speaking on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” Thursday night, Wike claimed that despite Jonathan’s well-established reputation as a worldwide statesman, it was hypocritical for the same individuals who thwarted his 2015 campaign to demand for his return.

“Anybody saying Jonathan should return because he will only do one term is only looking for a crisis. These are the same people who abandoned him in 2015. Why now? Jonathan has made a name for himself globally and they just want to drag him into unnecessary conflict,” Wike said.

Under the pretext of a “one-term presidency,” the minister warned against attempts to upset the political balance by supporting Jonathan or any other Southern candidate, calling such actions “insincere.”

Regarding President Bola Tinubu’s government, Wike acknowledged that the nation was going through a challenging period, but he maintained that the president had made difficult but essential choices to realign the economy.

“Yes, there is hardship. I agree. But no one can deny that this government is making efforts to improve things. I see the projects in Abuja daily; they are evidence that something is happening,” he stressed.

Wike also accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of hypocrisy for his recent warnings of an impending revolution over poverty and hunger.

“Atiku was vice president for eight years. Why didn’t he lay the foundation to prevent hunger then? Now he keeps talking about hunger and revolution. For me, I don’t even bother reading what he says, because there is no truth in it,” Wike declared.

The FCT minister insisted that opposition politicians shouldn’t take advantage of the country’s current economic difficulties for political ends, even though Nigerians must have patience with the Tinubu administration.
