Elon Musk has been endorsed by US Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky to be the next Speaker of the House.
In a statement posted Thursday on his official X account, Senator Paul alluded to this.
He asserts that the speaker of the House is not required to be a member of Congress.
“The Speaker of the House need not be a member of Congress.
“Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk . . . think about it . . . nothing’s impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka ‘uniparty,’ lose their ever-lovin’ minds),” he said.
His remark comes as House Speaker Mike Johnson is being criticised by the GOP for how he handled a funding agreement at the end of the year.
This comes as a package supported by Speaker Johnson on Tuesday would have provided the government with funding until March 14 and included $10 billion in economic assistance for farmers and over $100 billion in disaster relief.
The bill also addressed ways to improve transparency in live event tickets and health care changes.
In a joint statement released Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance denounced the idea, claiming that “allowing our country to hit the debt ceiling in 2025” was the “most foolish and inept thing” ever done by Republicans in Congress.
Elon Musk, whom Trump has appointed to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in his new cabinet, also blasted the planned spending package.
Any lawmaker who supports the “outrageous” bill should be “voted out in 2 years,” Musk said on X Wednesday.
In a another post, Musk stated, “This bill should not pass.”
According to Politico, Speaker Johnson’s team is currently discreetly debating a contingency budget plan in order to avoid a government shutdown on Friday.
