Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, has criticised the Kano State Government’s proposal to form a committee to probe the deaths of four people during a demolition exercise in Rimin Zakara, Kumbotso Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by him, Kwankwaso urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his land and works commissioners to personally visit the affected families and express their sympathies.
He noted that such direct engagement was required to address the situation and urged the government to pay the relatives of the deceased and provide alternative land to those whose properties had been demolished.
“The government’s repeated denial of involvement in the demolition exercise is futile.
“Multiple local radio stations have reported that officials from the Ministry of Land were seen with security personnel during the demolitions,” Kwankwaso stated.
Kwankwaso further claimed that the demolition effort demonstrated Governor Yusuf’s lack of control over his administration, and that he was being controlled by NNPP leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
He cautioned that such acts could cost Governor Yusuf the 2027 election.
“Kano people should now realize who their enemies are. The NNPP government in Kano will bring nothing but suffering, loss of lives, and destruction of properties, as evidenced by what happened in Rimin Zakara,” he said.
Kwankwaso expressed trust in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and praised his efforts to combat poverty and hunger across the country.
The APC chief also applauded Amnesty International for condemning the killings that occurred during the forcible evacuation in Rimin Zakara.
He stated: “I stand with Amnesty International in condemning the Kano State Government’s attacks on poor communities, who are being punished for decades of urban planning failures. The chaotic scenes and threats by security forces to set fire to homes have instilled fear and panic.
“Using lethal force to render the poor homeless is an act of crude cruelty. State violence against the underprivileged must end.”
Kwankwaso asked the state administration to take a more humanitarian and inclusive approach to urban development, safeguarding the rights and lives of underprivileged residents.
