Real Madrid forward, Vinicius Jr, has expressed his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, revealing that the Portuguese legend is his idol.

Vinicius made these remarks after playing a key role in helping Real Madrid secure a 3-2 victory over Manchester City in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 32 clash on Tuesday. Manchester City will now travel to Spain for the return leg next week.

The Brazilian international shared his aspirations of achieving similar successes to Ronaldo, both in terms of titles and individual accomplishments.

Reflecting on his performance against City, Vinicius revealed that his motivation came from a banner displayed by Manchester City fans mocking him regarding the 2024 Ballon d’Or controversy. The Brazilian forward was instrumental in the match, contributing to Brahim Diaz’s goal in the 86th minute and assisting Jude Bellingham’s match-winning strike in the 90+2’ minute.

For his efforts, Vinicius was named UEFA’s Player of the Match. After the game, the 24-year-old spoke about his relationship with Ronaldo, noting that he shares a strong connection with the 40-year-old forward and five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

“I talk a lot to Cristiano Ronaldo. Hopefully, I can win as many titles as he did at Real Madrid,” said Vinicius, expressing his desire to follow in the footsteps of the iconic forward, who enjoyed a successful spell at Los Blancos from 2009 to 2018.

Cristiano Ronaldo, now playing for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, remains Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer with 450 goals and 131 assists in 438 appearances. Over his nine seasons at the club, Ronaldo won 16 trophies, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players in the club’s history.

Vinicius Jr, on the other hand, has already accumulated 14 trophies with Real Madrid since joining in 2018. He has scored 101 goals and provided 84 assists in 295 appearances for the Spanish giants.
