US President Donald Trump confirmed the death of Abdallah Maki Mosleh al-Rifai, the leader of ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
On Friday, Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced that al-Rifai had been killed in an operation carried out by both US forces and Iraqi intelligence services. He was considered one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and globally.
Al-Sudani said: “The Iraqis continue their impressive victories over the forces of darkness and terrorism.”
Trump also issued a statement on his Truth Social platform, saying, “Today the fugitive leader of ISIS in Iraq was killed.
“He was relentlessly hunted down by our intrepid warfighters. His miserable life was terminated, along with another member of ISIS, in coordination with the Iraqi Government and the Kurdish Regional Government. PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH!”
Following al-Rifai’s death, US Central Command confirmed that, in collaboration with Iraqi intelligence, they conducted an airstrike in Al Anbar Province.
