Former Borussia Dortmund shot-stopper Roman Weidenfeller has shared why he believes Cristiano Ronaldo ranks above Lionel Messi.

He attributed Ronaldo’s edge to his unwavering determination and self-belief, noting that these traits set the Portuguese forward apart from his Argentine counterpart.

Weidenfeller, who named Ronaldo as the most challenging attacker he has encountered, said no other striker he faced posed as much of a threat.

In a conversation with The Hindu, as reported by Goal, the retired German goalkeeper reflected on his encounters with the Al Nassr star, highlighting how difficult it was to predict his movements on the field.

He also pointed out that Ronaldo’s form in Saudi Arabia reinforces his argument.

He said, “Cristiano Ronaldo was incredibly difficult to read because of his relentless work ethic and confidence.

“I played against him many times, at Real Madrid and later at Juventus. I also faced Robert Lewandowski, who was my team-mate at Dortmund before he moved to Bayern Munich.

“I’ve played against many strong strikers, like Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, and others. But Ronaldo stands out. He’s always the first in the dressing room…”

Weidenfeller emphasized that Ronaldo’s long-standing dedication to the game has helped him stay at the top of his craft.
