Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar cannot be pressured to give up his bid for president in the upcoming 2027 elections, according to Otunba Segun Sowunmi, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP.

Regardless of the narrative surrounding the number of times Atiku has run for president, Sowunmi stated that he has the right to do so.

ZINGTIE notes that Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 and Bola Tinubu in 2023, the candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC, defeated Atiku twice.

Meanwhile, there is discussion about Atiku’s presidential aspirations as the countdown to the 2027 presidential election intensifies.

With Atiku having lost twice to the APC in his six efforts, his detractors have demanded him to step down so that younger contenders might represent the party as presidential candidates.

But Sowunmi disagreed, arguing that people spend too much time on something that should be a constitutionally guaranteed right and a matter of personal choice.

“The first thing people must understand is that a lot of suggestions, persuasion, argument, pressure, and bullies come into play in politics, but whether any human being will contest any election is purely the rights granted to them by the constitution and according to the platforms of the party.

“So what I find a little bit curious is that instead of people to talk about how they win the or even how they’re going to win the general election they have devoted too much time into trying to bully a man that cannot be bullied. I know very well if anybody tries to bully him, you basically does only to make him more resolute in his position,” he said.
