I promised my wife that I would return a better man after my business trip to South Africa than when I left Nigeria. I was pursuing possibilities and contracts since I only wanted to give us a good life. I had faith in her. cherished her. even made sure to send her money each month.
We spoke frequently, but occasionally she didn’t answer. I assumed she was busy or that there were network problems. She was busy creating a whole new life behind my back, which I never thought possible.
I spent four years away. I made the decision to go back home when my documents expired and I was unable to renew them. I was planning. I had money saved up. I was prepared to begin a family of my own.
However, I encountered strangers in my house when I returned. The lady I had left behind, my wife, was no longer mine. She was no longer there. married a different man. Furthermore, she already had two kids with him.
I mistook it for a joke. Perhaps she was being coerced, I thought. However, she said, “You were gone too long,” after meeting my gaze. Life went on.
As simple as that.
I was shattered. I sacrificed everything overseas so that I could join her in building. I’m not even sure who got pleasure out of all the money I sent. Was it bad of me to seek a better life? I ask myself this question often. Should I have remained present but impoverished?
Remember to pursue love and presence in addition to money if you’re a man pursuing it far from home. Some women will not wait indefinitely. Some people will begin a new life without looking back. When you get back, make sure the house you’re building for is still there.
