In protest of Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s effort to retake his post as national secretary by force, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat management and employees closed their offices and participated in a mass walkout on Monday.
According to reports, the protest happened after Setonji Koshodeo was appointed interim National Secretary by the party’s National Working Committee, NWC.
According to reports, Anyanwu attempted to seize control of the national secretary’s office after showing up at the party headquarters with alleged thugs.
However, he was left stranded and obviously embarrassed as staff workers reportedly swiftly mobilized and left the premises because they did not want to recognize or work with him.
“Anyanwu and his people entered the building. It wasn’t just an attempt, they actually went straight into the national secretary’s office with some of his aides,” One of the protesting staff members said.
As the demonstration continued, the PDP secretariat remained empty, with some employees refusing to return until Anyanwu left the building.
Recall that the staff insisted that Koshoedo’s nomination adhere to the party’s internal protocols and publicly promised to back the committee’s decision in May.
“We had all left our offices and walked out in protest. That firm action led to his exit,” another protesting staff said.
The PDP had not yet released an official statement on the subject at the time this report was filed.
