A 32-year-old vice president at Bank of America, Erin Piacenti, has been killed in a stabbing incident in New York City’s Times Square, with police describing the attack as apparently random and unprovoked.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), Piacenti was stabbed in the stomach on Monday before she was rushed to a hospital, where she later died.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said preliminary investigations suggested that the attack was random and that there was no indication of any provocation.

The suspect, identified as Cisneros, was subsequently confronted by police officers and shot dead following an approximately four-minute standoff, according to reports.

Footage shared on social media appeared to show police officers ordering Cisneros to drop the knives she was carrying.

Police reportedly used a Taser after which the suspect moved towards officers while still armed, prompting them to open fire. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tisch also revealed that Cisneros had a documented history of previous encounters with police involving mental health concerns.

Bank of America reacted with shock to Piacenti’s death, describing her as a valued member of its workforce who would be deeply missed.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by Erin’s death. She was a valued teammate who will be greatly missed,” the bank said.

Piacenti worked as a vice president in Bank of America’s business selection and conflicts unit.

She studied political science at the University of Pennsylvania before obtaining a law degree from Fordham University School of Law.
