Suspected armed men ambushed a commercial vehicle along the Tsafe-Funtua road in Zamfara State, leaving about seven passengers dead and several others injured.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Thursday, shortly before the road was due to be closed for the night, in line with a recent security policy introduced by the Zamfara State Government to tackle ongoing attacks targeting motorists.
According to the source, “The bandits were on motorcycles, crossing the road, when they encountered an oncoming commercial bus and opened fire on them.”
The source stated that the assailants began shooting as soon as they encountered the vehicle, which was transporting women and children. Seven passengers, including some children, reportedly died instantly.
The source further noted that individuals from two additional vehicles were kidnapped during the assault.
Attempts to contact the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, for comment were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered.
