The Rotary Clubs of Eko Heights, Ikeja Legend, and Mushin Metropolitan have joined forces to combat maternal mortality in Nigeria through a joint maternal and child health project. The initiative, unveiled at the General Hospital in Ebute Meta, Lagos, aims to transform the health and well-being of the community.

According to Ogechukwu Ogbonanya, president of the Rotary Club of Eko Heights, the project includes the donation of essential items, such as “100 mother care bags, 100 sanitary pads, 100 nappies, 100 baby wipes, and many more.” Ogbonanya stated, “The initiative is expected to significantly reduce maternal and child mortality rates, improving overall health outcomes and creating a lasting impact.
Enitan Ibironke, Charter President of the Rotary Club of Ikeja Legend, highlighted the club’s commitment to enhancing community health through the project. She noted that the project would provide “free antenatal and postnatal check-ups, a short health talk, distribution of antenatal drugs, health checks, and distribution of mosquito nets” to families in the hospital. Ibironke added, “Together, we promote maternal and child health and strengthen disease prevention and treatment for healthier families and communities.”
Iphie Nwatu, president of the Rotary Club of Mushin Metropolitan, emphasised the club’s commitment to providing community care, focusing on children’s health, disease prevention, and treatment services. A free medical checkup, including blood pressure and sugar tests, will be held at the General Hospital in Ebute Meta
