The administration of President Donald Trump has delivered a strong message to corrupt judges around the world, warning that they will face consequences for abusing their positions.

This announcement follows recent sanctions placed on Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes by the U.S. government, citing allegations of power misuse.

The development was disclosed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who indicated that similar actions could be extended to officials in other countries.

Rubio stated that Justice Moraes was penalized under the Global Magnitsky Act for severe human rights violations, including unlawful detentions and suppression of free expression.

He said: “@POTUS and @USTreasury have sanctioned Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes under the Global Magnitsky sanctions program for serious human rights abuses. Let this be a warning to those who would trample on the fundamental rights of their countrymen judicial robes cannot protect you.”

The Global Magnitsky sanctions include financial penalties and travel prohibitions directed at individuals accused of major human rights offenses.

The law is named in memory of Sergei Magnitsky, a Russian attorney who revealed high-level corruption, was later jailed, and died under questionable circumstances in 2009.
