Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, a former member of the House of Representatives for the Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, has stated that defeating Governor Caleb Mutfwang in the state’s 2027 gubernatorial election will be an extremely challenging undertaking.

Bagos, who served as the constituency’s representative from 2019 to 2023 before being removed by a Court of Appeal ruling, claimed in a statement on Thursday that Mutfwang would be the most powerful governor in Nigeria to lose in the general elections of 2027, even though he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The former lawmaker’s estimate in the statement was based on what he called Mutfwang’s outstanding performance and growth throughout the state since taking office two years ago.

According to Bagos, Mutfwang has demonstrated a strategic leadership style that goes beyond partisan politics and is instead concentrated on producing measurable outcomes that have won over the hearts of the state’s citizens across party lines, in addition to his strong desire to advance the state and undo the eight years of wasted government.

He went on to say that the governor has revolutionized governance by accelerating growth in every area of the state at a never-before-seen rate, and that anyone hoping to unseat him in 2027 would be wasting their time.

Regarding the claims made by Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, to retake the state from the PDP in 2027, Bagos counseled him and the APC to abandon the idea because the Plateau people support Mutfwang and the 2027 elections will be about the candidates rather than party affiliations or national influence.

He listed the governor’s significant accomplishments that have gained him broad popular trust as being his audacious infrastructure investments, which include the building of roads in both urban and rural areas as well as changes in the fields of health, education, and job development.

He also discussed how Plateau residents have regained hope and pride as a result of Governor Mutfwang’s smooth approach to youth empowerment, technical education, and human capital development.

In addition, he emphasized the administration’s dedication to revitalizing dormant projects, enhancing rural infrastructure, increasing water availability, and luring collaborations from both domestic and international investors, all of which he claims have made him a strong contender in 2027.
