Pan-Africanist and President of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, has advocated for a unified African leadership structure including a single president, parliament, currency, and military—to harness the continent’s collective power.

Malema made the appeal on Sunday while speaking at the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Enugu.

He commended Nigeria for its historical support during South Africa’s fight against apartheid and emphasized the need for Nigeria and South Africa to jointly champion the African Continental Free Trade Area in a way that uplifts everyday citizens.

The 44-year-old politician also cautioned African governments about excessive borrowing, urging them to impose tighter controls on loans from international institutions such as the World Bank.

“Africans must love themselves, not kill one another. Black people are not loved in Africa, and not loved abroad either, but we must learn to treat ourselves better,” he said.

He further stressed that Africa should not be viewed as a “dark continent,” pointing out that it is rich in diamonds, minerals, and other valuable resources capable of driving sustainable development and prosperity.
