In the Ofun LGA of Kogi State, Friday Adehi, the pastor of the Christian Evangelical Fellowship of Nigeria, CEFN, and Gabriel Ezekiel, a church member, were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen.
The two were reportedly on a motorcycle when they collided with the abductors along Ajegwu-Ojodu Road in the same local government area of the state. They were taken just after church service on Sunday.
The abductees were reportedly on their way back to their Itobe home after attending a naming ceremony for another church member following their Sunday service when they were kidnapped at gunpoint.
“The incident happened between 3 and 4 p.m. on 24th August 2025 (Sunday) when both members of the church were returning from Ojodu to Itobe. The pastor was riding on his bike with another man accompanying him.
“Then the kidnappers, who were lying in ambush, suddenly burst onto the road when they sighted the motorcyclist approaching. The kidnappers stopped them at gunpoint and directed them into the bush,” an eyewitness told newsmen.
Nonetheless, the CEFN Church and other Christian believers have announced fasting and prayer for God to step in and protect the members’ freedom and safety.
Additionally, Ukomu Igala and ICDA, the leading Igala socio-cultural organizations, have urged the Kogi State government to give drone technology top priority in order to efficiently hunt down kidnappers and outlaws who use the forests as hideouts in order to negotiate ransom.
According to the group, the plan will help the combined task force fight criminals in the forests and get results.
